Starting a run

Why Start run is disabled, or says Open Settings, and how to clear it.

When Start run is disabled or reads Open Settings, a note above the button says why. Here's what each note means and how to clear it.

The button says "Open Settings"#

Note: Add an API key for Gemini in Settings. (naming whichever providers are missing)

At least one role that will run is assigned to a provider you don't have a key for. Either:

  • tap Open Settings and add a key for the named provider, or
  • go to Configuration → Agent Roles and move those roles to a provider you do have a key for. Apply provider + model to all roles does it in one tap.

The Visual QA role only runs in Visual and Interactive QA modes. In the default Code mode, its provider doesn't need a key.

"Fix the flagged agent roles before starting."#

A role card has a blocking problem. Look for the small orange dot on a collapsed card under Agent Roles, and expand it:

  • "…" isn't in this provider's model list: pick another model, or sync the catalog in Settings → Model catalog.
  • Max tokens N exceeds the model cap of M: step Max output tokens down to the cap or below.

A Reasoning model — max tokens will be raised… note is advisory only, and doesn't block Start.

"A run is already in progress. Stop it before starting another."#

Only one run can be active at a time. Tap Hub to go to the live run, then either let it finish or tap Cancel in its header.

If no run is visibly going, fully close and reopen the app. A run left over from an app that was closed mid-run is tidied up at launch and marked Cancelled.

Start run is greyed out with no note#

The active requirements doc is empty. Open the Requirements tab, then pick a starter project, choose a doc from the library, or write one.

"Start with Autorun?"#

Not an error. Autorun is on, so the swarm will iterate without checking in until the Score reaches your threshold. Tap Start run to confirm, or Cancel and switch Autorun off. Tick Don't show again to skip this question next time.

The model I want isn't in the list#
